Joanna Boulter's startling first collection Running with the Unicorns came out from The Bay Press (1995) to great critical acclaim.
She is a "trenchant, word-dazzling poet" (Colpitts), whose "skill lies in dissecting the human condition" (Isobel Thrilling). More recently her work has appeared in Other Poetry, The Interpreter's House, Orbis, Smiths Knoll and The Launde Bag (Second Light).
She has recently won First Prize in the Bath Age Concern competition.
In 1996 she won a Northern Arts award of a month's residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre to complete, among other work, this sequence of poems.
Joanna is currently among the first intake of students on the University of Newcastle's new MA in Writing Poetry. She is a founder member of Vane Women, the writing, publishing and performing collective based at Darlington Arts Centre, and is an experienced reviewer and editor of poetry.
This, her long-awaited second collection, also marked the first flight of Arrowhead Press.
